Compressor died at 1 year 9 months

I bought this fridge for my guest house's half kitchen, delivered end of October 2024. The compressor fully gave out one year and 9 months after it was delivered, and this fridge was barely used since it was a low-traffic guest fridge. Whirlpool only offers a one year warranty. They advertise a 2-5 year warranty on the compressor, but the catch is it's only for certain models and guess what, this model is excluded. Who would spend that kind of money for one year and 9 months of use? Just to have a repair service come out and tell me what was broken, I had to pay $150. Then the compressor fix, the most important component of the fridge, ended up costing about the same as the fridge itself. I don't recommend this fridge, and I'd think twice before buying Whirlpool again.

I bought this in 2021 & like the set up, it holds a lot for its size. However, the freezer coils are mounted on to the freezer compartment ceiling, held up by a plastic cover held in place by 2 screws that are screwed into the plastic ceiling. As ice accumulated in this compartment it caused one of the screws to pop out & the coils were cockeyed! Sure seems like a design flaw to me, since the screw can™™t be screwed back into a stripped hole we created a new drill hole in the plastic ceiling, and who knows how long this one will hold. Repairman designated it as unfixable so who knows how long it will keep working in this condition! I am very disappointed that a 4 year old refrigerator would have this type of design flaw problem!!!! I thought whirlpool was a good brand but I was wrong!

I am beginning to get infuriated with the lack of urgency your company is showing towards my legitimate concern. I have not had a refrigerator in almost 1 month. I've had two Whirlpool certified technicians at my house-- Woodbury Appliance and Platinum Appliance (which required me to take two separate days off of work)-- and have remained as patient as possible during this process. I have called the whirlpool customer care line dozens of times (waiting on hold for over an hour each time) to be told that I have to wait for another department to review info, etc. The last I spoke to someone besides this afternoon was earlier this week (I believe I called on Tuesday). The representative I spoke to was actually helpful and assured me that I would get a call within 3 days to set up delivery of my new refrigerator. This is after a separate representative I spoke to last Thursday escalated the case because of non-response from either your master technician or one of the vendors that inspected the unit. I called both appliance technicians and they ASSURED me they sent necessary paperwork and this was confirmed when I spoke to someone from Whirlpool last week. The last piece of the puzzle was waiting for your master technician to sign off. I was told by both certified Whirlpool technicians that evaporator, compressor and possibly condenser needs replacement and this is not financially prudent. Even if it was, parts for this model are unavailable. I want to know when my refrigerator will be delivered. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and anyone else that will listen. Whirlpool has been around for a long time and I am just shocked and disappointed in the disregard shown to me. I lost $800 worth of groceries that I cannot afford to replace and haven't been able to go food shopping due to the fact that I don't have a refrigerator to store groceries in. This is ridiculous. I beg you to please help me. I don't know what else to do... I have done everything that is needed on my end. I am DONE waiting.

Nightmare of an Appliance

This fridge has been a complete nightmare with numerous technical issues, malfunctions and lack of any genuine support by Whirlpool. In fact, at one point the fridge leaked from the back due to a broken part causing significant damage to our new floors and kitchen wall which was of no concern to Whirlpool or their technician contractors. Wait time on two occasions was 4 and 7 weeks for service. Not to mention ridiculous wait times when I called the "Customer Care" number. In the end, our fridge that is LESS than 2 years old is garbage due to a second compressor failure that Whirlpool will not even provide service for. We also bought the matching gas range from Whirlpool that has required repairs at our cost. Would never recommend a Whirlpool product of any kind. Also worth noting that Whirlpool reserves the right to cancel your warranty without notice, at any time if they don™™t have a technician available in your area.

Do not buy this fridge. It is a dud. Ours lasted for 2 months after we plugged it in. After waiting about a month for a new condenser, it worked again, for about another month. Next it was the evaporator. Another month wait for that part and it turns out the technician ordered the wrong one. Two more months went by and I missed the call saying the part was in. Having bought another fridge in the meantime, I did not follow up very urgently and now that I have they tell me they no longer have the part and its my fault for not following up sooner. Be warned: Whirlpool will only repair (very slowly), not refund your money.

The fridge's bottom freezer is very sensible, easy to use. The controls on the front are too easily hit inadvertently, resulting in freezing temps around the edges of the upper part which is not meant to freeze.

I have owned this refrigerator for 9 months and at this point it has been broken for longer than it has worked. DO NOT PURCHASE A WHIRLPOOL APPLIANCE! Any reasonable company will admit their mistake after numerous people have had the same appliance break and after having the same parts replaced countless times, but not Whirlpool. You will be stuck in appliance repair purgatory forever waiting weeks and sometimes months for parts, only to have the replaced part not work and start the cycle over again. Whirlpool will have zero sympathy let alone compensation for your lost wages waiting for repair techs and the huge amount of spoiled food you will have to replace. They will keep you in this cycle until you give up and replace the fridge or your warranty runs out. I™™m told Whirlpool used to be a good company but they will never get my business again.

We bought the 24in Whirlpool fridge WRB533CZJW in Oct 2020, the fridge lasted 20 months. How can a fridge that isn't even 2 years old stop working? We were lucky we had a Certified Care Warranty, at least we thought we were lucky. Called Certified Warranty booked a service call. Guy came and ordered a control box said it would fix the problem. Took 5 months for the part to come in. He installed it and it didn't fix the problem so he called Whirlpool. I was then informed that the fridge was non-repairable (order # 7735006906). Whirlpool told me that they would reimburse me my money for the warranty and give me 30% off a new fridge. I ask you why would anyone buy another Whirlpool appliance when their produce doesn't last 2 year and one that they can't fix. I'm warning family and friends and you to not buy any Whirlpool appliance. We paid for a fridge that lasted a year and a bit, a warranty that would not fix the fridge and fridge full of food that went bad.

We have had this refrigerator for two years, and it has been nothing but a huge problem. It doesn™™t cool properly. A thermometer placed inside registers 55-60 degrees F. The external panel says it should be 34 degree F. We are on our sixth repair and counting. Freezer has stopped working in the last couple months. Ice cream is soft serve basically. I would not waste my money or time with this product or this company. Desperately trying to get a refrigerator that works !!!!!!!!!

I installed this refrigerator in the beginning of September 22. Mid-October, it started making weird reoccurring buzzing sounds, as if it were not able to cool correctly, or at all. Sure enough, 2 days later, the fridge and freezer sections were both at room temperature... with the same buzzing sound going off every 3 minutes of so. I lost between 250 and 300$ worth of groceries. I called Whirlpool and asked for a replacement. They insisted on a visit by their affiliate appliance repair company first. We scheduled an appointment as soon as possible, that is 7 days later. On the day of the appointment, around 11, I received two phone calls originating from a masked number. Both calls I tried to answer, but it would hang up immediately. No messages were left. And it was impossible to call back, given the fact the number was masked. I knew something was wrong. I called Whirlpool again. They told me the file had been closed by the appliance repair affiliate company because two service calls were not answered... which is not true. I told the whole story to the customer service representative. She apologized and offered to set up another appointment. In 8 days. So if my maths is correct, the brand new refrigerator I bought worked for about 5 weeks. A Whirlpool refrigerator. And not cheap either. And it will be 2 weeks before the situation is even assessed by the appliance repair company affiliated to Whirlpool. Not fixed. Assessed. In the mean time, I cannot feed my family correctly. Junk product. Below average customer service. And who knows... it could be only the beginning. Please do not tell me to contact Customer Service. I am way beyond that step, trying to figure out my options.

I bought two of these for my cottage. I never worked and was replaced and that one did not work either. The other one worked but if you open and close the fridge ( beer fridge ) it takes 12 hours to get cold again. Whirlpool bought back the two fridges as this model is not a good one. Thank you to Whirlpool but going to buy a LG fridge now that I have my money back.

Perfect sized fridge for our summer cottage! We purchased it in April and went to our cottage twice before fridge's compressor died. Whirlpool expedited the 3 parts needed to repair, however, Whirlpool wanted nothing to do with the idea of giving us a brand new fridge that we paid well over $1100 for! We were fortunate that the store that we purchased this fridge from, Smarter Appliance, in Colchester, CT had a "loaner" fridge for us to borrow until the parts that were ordered became available. I was assured by the gentleman at Whirlpool that he would "keep me abreast every step of the way". I never received a single e mail from him. My husband and I saved up for 3 years in order to buy this particular smaller sized fridge as we have limited space in our seasonal cottage. The fridge was repaired yesterday, so let's all cross our fingers that our BRAND NEW appliance doesn't break down AGAIN! Shame on Whirlpool for not having parts in stock, making consumers wait over 3 weeks for an appliance repair! If this fridge is not completely operational to my satisfaction, I will be contacting Whirlpool again along with BBB.

The unit is nicely designed, with useful controls and plenty of space. But it does not work: specifically, the fan moving cold air from freezer to refrigerator is prone to repeated failure. My unit first failed after about 6 months, then took 3 months to fix (parts backlog on that fan). After about 6 months, it's failed again. I'm not willing to jump through all the hoops to get it repaired again (and then fail again), so it's off to the junkyard. Please, Whirlpool, protect your brand and do something about this lemon unit.

I noticed pretty much from the beginning that food placed on the top shelf of the unit wasn't nearly as cold as the rest of the food on the shelves below. I chalked this up to being an issue with the smaller size and just didn't keep much on the top shelf so air could circulate better. Then about a week and a half ago we woke up to a puddle on the floor and discovered the freezer had defrosted for some reason and we lost all of our frozen food. We determined that the freezer door somehow wasn't sealed all the way so we chalked it up to not making sure it was shut the night before. This brings us to today... I had noticed that the items on the 2nd shelf from the top weren't as cool as they used to be and again chalked it up to too many things on the shelf and the small size of the unit, that is until I went to pour some milk (that had been in the refrigerator door) from the brand new jug (it's 3 days old) and immediately realized it was rancid. I put a thermometer in another carton of iced tea from the door and it was well over 42 degrees (anything above this is the perfect temperature for festering bacteria in your food to multiply) this explains the rancid 3-day-old milk. Now we are having to toss about $200 worth of food for fear that it's all been at a temperature over 42 degrees for way too long and is now rotten. I contacted whirlpool and they act like most others have described, like this is totally normal and why am I complaining to them and bothering them. We have scheduled a service call with their contracted repair company locally. I do not have high hopes for this repair as the reviews for the company are a whopping 2 stars on Google and everyone has the same complaints about them as they appear to be the only company in my area for manufacturers warranty calls (Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, etc). I asked the Whirlpool customer service rep why they think it's acceptable for numerous people to have the same issue with a refrigerator that isn't even a year old and pointed out that knowingly selling faulty products is consumer fraud. They tried to tell me it is completely normal to have a unit that is under 1 year old serviced or repaired multiple times. This is how Whirlpool "stands behind" their products. They are no longer a respectable company and have been sued multiple times for these exact reasons (class action suit anyone?). I have serious regrets about purchasing multiple Whirlpool products after remodeling my kitchen last year and now worry that my $450 microwave and $600 oven will soon start to fail. Save yourself the money and the headache and look elsewhere because Whirlpool will rip you off and you will lose hundreds of dollars worth of food in the process.

Delivered Feb 4th, broke down May 20th, service appointment compressor went had to wait for whirlpool to decide either replace the compressor or fridge???? ghosted .... June 12 called for an update was told they're going to replace the compressor however it's on back order for 3 weeks. Seriously what am I supposed to do with out a fridge for two months ?? Whirlpool solution here's $50 to go purchase a mini fridge pushed back and the final solution was $150 towards a mini fridge. Last product I will ever buy from whirlpool.

The compressor on the fridge died shortly after purchase. Technicians have been sent to the home to diagnose and because of its complexity to repair, they canceled the service on multiple occasions. Finally, another company agreed to repair it. Compressor, Condenser and evaporator need to be replaced apparently. Minimum 8 weeks wait for parts. Still within warranty and Whirlpool refuses to replace this lemon. Absolutely terrible customer service, the experience could not be worse. I can™™t live without a fridge for that long so will have to buy a new one. Will never buy Whirlpool Again. Money down the drain.

The frig looks great. It only worked for two months then stopped cooling and ruined a huge grocery store run. Attempts at repair are met with ridiculous wait times. The diagnosis was ten days out then the part was on backorder. I couldn't make the appointment until the part came in and when it did that appointment was two weeks out. The technician came and in 15 min declared it fixed. It still didn't work so I called back and that follow-up appointment was two weeks out. It has been 6 weeks and I still don't have a working refrigerator. The company that services them is the only one around here certified for it so an extension of Whirlpool. The frig looks good but not good enough to be a $1000 knick-knack. I had to go out and buy a little dorm room frig to hold us over. I will let you know if it ever works. I won't buy another product and need a dishwasher and a washer/dryer.

Impressed w/ delivery communication (email, call). The refrigerator cap doesn™™t fit. We had to change the door (hinge now on left and cosmetic cap doesn™™t fit. We spoke with a customer rep a couple weeks ago and she said she would send us a replacement. To date, we have NOT received the replacement. can you help with this? The fridge sometimes hummus and occasionally sounds like a small animal whining softly (motor?) The glass shelves seem to be a tad small. If they are not centered, it seems one corner dips a bit. Hopefully the shelf will not fall and break. Your product appears to be well made. Your product design team could improve. Customer service began well, but didn™™t follow through. I will contact you again IF the problems mentioned continue to occur. I purchased a Whirlpool dryer in Jan 1973 which dried many cloth diapers and family laundry. We replaced a belt ONCE. And we are still using that dryer!! I hope my new fridge lasts as long!!

We bought this in July of 2020. As I write this in June of 2021 it hasn™™t worked for the last 2 months. Repair service has been here twice but continues to need parts that are back ordered. I have requested a product replacement several times & one is finally scheduled to arrive next week.

My fridge is cool 6/5/2021

The delivery process was efficient and smooth. Refrigerator delivered and plugged in. We had to switch the doors (hinge on left side) and the cap isn™™t interchangeable. The cosmetic cap opposite the hinge DOES NOT FIT. We talked to a customer rep who was sending the correct one, BUT it still hasn™™t arrived. Whirlpool did a good job; the design team could be improved. Sometimes there is a hum, but we™™re hoping it will go away. If not, we will be contacting you again. I have a Whirlpool gas dryer From 1973 that dried cloth diapers and family laundry. We had to replace the belt ONE TIME. I™™m hoping this appliance will last many years. We are thinking about purchasing a second refrigerator if this issue can be resolved.1 Thank you. Ron Gianola and Pam Yee

This fridge is perfect! Love the bottom freezer and the top fridge is so spacious. I reviewed alot of websites and this product had few reviews so took a chance. I've had it a month and its quiet, lots of room and as expected love the bottom freezer design.
